My daughter is named for these mountains. They are her birthright and my most cherished inheritance I give to her. What she decides to do with that gift is up to her, she’s under no obligation to ever set foot in this place, but it is hers none the less.

Hours after I shot this, she being just a year old, was strapped to my chest as I hiked the backwoods of Mirror Lake at the foot of Half Dome.

Leaves of Autumn yellow
A trail over fallen granite
November wind blows from the West
I walk with veiled happiness
Child and beating heart as one

Half Dome is grandeur, it is the signature of this place. It anchors the eastern end of the valley like a watchful sentinel, powerful in its geologic reminder of the origins of this place.

I wanted to get a crisp black shadow along its face and used a deep red #25 filter to deepen that reflected blue light. It was so clear this day and the detail so sharp, I wanted to accentuate that feeling.
