When you intimately know a place, patterns emerge when it’s visited. Little spaces returned to time and again. Tucked away corners, or times of day that mean something special. There’s a path out from Camp IV across the Valley I love walking at sunrise. I grab, or make some coffee, and slowly wander over. It doesn’t matter the time of year, each season has its feeling. The sun rises closes to Half Dome and the waters of the Merced here are calm and still.

I’ve only photographed from this spot a few times for I often just come with a warm drink and a blank journal. But this morning, I wanted to capture the feeling. Later I’ll wander up past Mirror Lake and scramble to a hidden ledge I found half my lifetime ago to have my lunch. The High Sierra is where my soul lives, but Yosemite Valley will always have my heart.
