I bushwhacked my through a tangle of manzanita and wet granite near the base of Upper Yosemite Falls. In the distance Half Dome was bathed in late afternoon light. But it looked too forced so I backed off and walked down the trail and scrambled up to a series of granite benches on the side of a cliff. These iconic landmarks can be difficult to capture in unique ways. Their popularity sets them apart and thus trying to find new angles can be a fun creative puzzle. I was able to get an angle that shows both steepness and grandeur in a place that drips with both.
