The middle of the day can be a harsh time to photograph. But it also can yield surprising results, if you understand your tools. I wanted no shadow, no blacks deeper than Zone IV. I wanted to keep the blue sky light at Zone VI with just a subtle separation from the clouds. What I sought was almost painterly, ethereal.

And there she is again, Seven Gables, in the distance. It’s angularity ever present, and ever alluring. This is the lesser of the two summits, it has no map name, but that doesn’t matter. It’s striking and beautiful and I thought of the whole massif as Seven Gables. Spend enough time in a single place and it becomes a part of you. A familiarity solidifies around just existing in the place. Comfort yes, but it’s more than that. Love.
