Walking through a wet Oregon forest just over the Cascade Crest. The rain has been coming down hard all day and the autumn color is magnificent. After shooting color in the morning I walk deeper into the forest to find contrasting tonality. A lone yellow maple stands in repose amongst moss and firs. To isolate it, I scramble up a small cliff and use a 250mm lens. I use a yellow #8 filter to brighten the leaves even more.
I’ve been wet for most of the day and am pretty chilly, but I don’t mind. I like a good clean forest shower. I feel like this tree sometimes, wandering alone in the landscape.
Location: Mckenzie Pass, Oregon
Technical Info: Hasselblad 250mm, yellow #8, Ilford Delta 100 BW film, Kodak X-tol N development.
