On the Northside of Ragged Peak just north Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park are the three small Young Lakes. It’s an easy hike over and a great place to sleep for a few days. So many people visit this park and stick to its popular valley, which don’t get me wrong, is astounding. But the park has so many places of intense beauty, far more than could be explored in a lifetime and I’ve spent more than half my life exploring them.

I woke this morning to a cloudless sky. I was disappointed because to a landscape photographer, clouds mean everything. But the sun hadn’t crested and I thought I could get some early sunrise light. When I got up, I could see the stillness in the lake, the perfect mirrored image and knew exactly what I wanted to capture. I waited for the sun to kiss the top of Ragged Peak and then captured what I had envisioned. Not a bad morning at all. There are no bad mornings up here.
