A clear midnight on a calm evening a wanderer in the Valley is under a half moon. This is my place, my home and I own it. It was always a part of me, even before I discovered it as a young visually immature man. I hope you have such a place. A place that isn’t where you sleep and pay your bills, but a place you go to to feel alive and fierce. A place you aggressively defend. That is what the Sierra is to me. I have art and broken teeth, blood and love mixed with these rocks. Unfortunately my wife refuses to commit to burning me on a funeral pyre in the high mountains after I die, something about legal issues. But regardless, it is where my ashes or body will be. You get my point. Find your place if you don’t have one and fight for it always, for it is yours and you own it.

I had spent the week taking a watercolor painting class because the light during the day was so poor. By the end of the week I had had enough of painting and was itching to get back to my camera, but poor sunny blue sky kept me to the night shooting. Turns out there was a half moon this night and granite glows in perfect balance to starlight under a half moon. This night I was owl, nothing could hear me, nothing could touch me. This place I own, it is mine.
