To study the same landscape is to eventually understand it. You will come to know its personality. Like Monet’s Haystacks, you will see it at different times of the day, under various weather. Through this you will get an appreciation for how to capture it. It’s a slow approach to your subject for it takes time and patience to form that conversation. Because of this intimate process, the depth of work is almost more personal, like sharing a journal entry or private conversation.

I wanted to explore this idea of revelation through darkness. There was a duality in my mind, the world at large was in darkness but I was experiencing an artistic revelation in this daily river walk. So the first image I formed was purposely underexposed, to bring this darkness and at the same time I retained the highlights, the swirling brightness, for what purpose…well friend, that is for you to discover.
