I spent a decade living in San Francisco and next to its bay. I think on this time often, the energy, the ease of geography, the sense of space in movement. This broken down pier lies just off the end of a long walkway that extends out into the bay about a quarter mile. At the end is a fence made of wood slats but with openings wide enough I could stick my lens through. This is one of those subjects that screams for a long exposure and with the cloud movement doing what it was I responded in kind. I met a chef at the end of the pier who chatted me up about photography. I took his card because he wanted to use this image after I developed and printed it. I never heard from him again but it was a nice conversation anyway.
