Early morning along the shores of the great Salt Lake. It’s so still there is almost no movement. The horizon stretches to an apparent infiniteness. The sky and water merge into one beautiful glowing tone. It’s not a mirror, it’s a palette of desert color. The air is warm and pungent from the briny water where nothing lives but tiny shrimp and flies. There’s an otherworldliness feel to this place, of time displaced. It’s not comforting to be here, not in the way a mountain tarn is comforting. But it is visually stunning. I rarely see sunrise colors presented in such splendid simplicity.
