I set my bag down on a black widow, but didn’t know it yet. This is a land of many personalities. Sculpted and hardened sandstone, dry uplands, narrow slot canyons, and hidden dells. The trail I was on wove through all of these. I came upon this brushy area where the plants displayed all kinds of tonalities. I had to photograph it. The storm above had been threatening all day, raining a little but keeping its wonderful structure. Clouds are a landscape photographers companion, adding tonality and interest to support the subject.
My wife had walked on ahead and I stayed awhile, watching the storm flow overhead.
