Deadhorse Point looks out over the great expanse of Canyonlands National Park. It’s a maze of canyons and channels and washes down there. A remote desert wonderland that enticing and tricky. If you go, take maps and extra water, no joke.

This red hued desert is Ed Abbey country. And like him it’s hard and poetic. I am a Sierra man, that is my soul. But if I had to choose a second, this Colorado Plateau would be it.
