Having just graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography I moved to Utah to be close to the southwest landscapes. It was a confusing time in my career. The optimism and peer support of college replaced with the cold reality of the world. I was hungry and eager and lost. I write this now with years of perspective and wonder what that time meant. There is power in the beginners mind, this is true. But there is confidence in the experienced mind.

I’ve never printed, nor titled, this piece. But looking on it now I see it with mature eyes. It shows a young artist yearning to be something. A duality in his young mind between having made it and not. And yet, it was never going to be a door to walk through but a ceaseless grind of try and struggle and reinvention and patience.
