It’s been almost two weeks since I walked in. Tomorrow I will head up to the last night. I sit on a small dome of granite above my camp eating my dinner and watching the light leave this canyon. The end of these journey’s are always hard. Behind me are the miles of traversed wilderness, creative solitude, and a simplicity of living I don’t experience down in the world. It’s understandable, down there the responsibilities of living demand attention and complexity. I can only exist up here in this simplicity because I’m carrying all I need. When runs out I’ll have to leave. But maybe that’s a good thing. It’s special because it’s temporary, and in that temporality exists the wondrous feeling of being alive.
