N. California

Northern California was my home for many years. It will always hold a special place in my heart, for it was there I truly became the artist I am.  This collection is an edited anthology of my time there. It is not a documentary of space, but of time spent honing my craft. The varied ecosystems are sculpted more with geology and geography than with seasonal change. There is dry, and there is wet, and the slick green serpentine outcrops poison all but the most adaptive plants. Geology is tied to time, as is my work, and when I photographed there, that idea was firmly established in my mind.

Steep Ravine Trail

Deep in fractured bedrock
A steep ravine
Lost among redwoods new,
And fallen

A single orchid blooms white
An untouched compass
Lost in damp coolness
Found amongst ferns and moss
